Top tips for a healthy scalp

Top Tips Healthy Scalp

An unhealthy scalp can cause all sorts of issues; from hair loss to an itchy, flaky scalp and even limp damaged hair. So, it’s crucial to give this often-neglected area some regular TLC. Here are our top tips for a naturally healthy scalp.

1. Wash regularly, but not too often.

Ideally, you should wash your hair every two to three days. This will help maintain the right level of natural oils on the scalp which condition your hair’s follicles and strands. Washing more often can strip away these essential oils which can result in a dry and irritated scalp. However, spreading hair washing day out too far can result in a build-up of dead skin cells and excess oils that can clog your pores and cause inflammation. This, in turn, can slow the hair’s natural growth cycle. But what if you have super oily hair and need to wash daily? It’s ok, as long as you use a gentle shampoo.

2. Use gentle, high-quality care products.

Harsh shampoos made with cheap ingredients will strip everything good from your scalp. Did you know sodium chloride (salt) is commonly used as a thickener in shampoos? And we’re not talking about good salt here. This is cheap table salt that does your hair no favours. In fact, it can result in a dry and itchy scalp, hair loss, and unnecessary colour fade - and no one wants that! Tints of Nature’s Hydrate Shampoo is a gentle cleanser (sodium chloride-free of course) packed with the highest quality certified organic and natural ingredients that love and nourish your hair and scalp.

3. Avoid too much silicone.

A bit of silicone in the odd finishing product isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but when silicone features in every product you use day in, day out - think shampoo, conditioner and styling products - it layers up to create a coating that has been said to clog your pores, suffocate your strands and weigh down your hair. And it can be a nightmare to remove. Choose a care range, like Tints of Nature, that doesn’t contain silicones for happy, healthy everyday hair.

4. Treat problem scalps with a light touch.

The last thing you want to do when you’re suffering from a dry, flaky, sore scalp is strip the problem away with harsh products. Yes, you may get some instant relief, but in the long term your ‘instant fix’ can simply make things worse.  Nourish your scalp to health using gentle, and preferably natural, ingredients. Try this Scalp Treatment; it’s packed with scalp-loving Fennel Seed Extract, Sea Mayweed, Aloe and Chamomile that, when used over time, will nurture, nourish and protect scalp health. It’s great for use before and after colouring too.

We can’t impress upon you enough how important your scalp health is. Be gentle, give it the attention and love it needs, and you will be rewarded with beautiful, luscious hair from roots to tips.
