These days

Happy Earth Day. Wait, what? Who knew Earth Day was a thing? Well, heaps of people as it turns out.

Earth Day was first held on April 22nd, 1970 and now includes globally coordinated events involving a billion people in more than 193 countries. It’s an annual celebration honouring the Earth and raising awareness of the importance of protecting our planet for future generations. Awesome!

But here’s the thing; there are so many ‘days’ these days - International Organic Day, World Vegan Day, International Day of Light, World Press Freedom Day, International Day for Biological Diversity - the list is extensive. So, it’s understandable these days can go by with little more than a glance from those of us who aren’t actively involved in the organisations that run them.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Doing our bit to protect the planet is a huge priority for everyone at Tints of Nature.

We reckon these days are a great time to take stock. Are we doing everything we could be, and everything we should be, to make our world a better place?

• In 2020 we became the first hair colour company in the world to use colour bottles made from 100% recycled and recyclable plastic. 
• Today all of our retail bottles and boxes are made from 100% recycled and recyclable materials. 
• We’re investigating how we can set up a ‘closed-loop’ recycling service that returns our bottles to us for reuse.
• We use certified organic and natural ingredients wherever possible, supporting healthy soils and sustainable farming practices. 
• We purchase ingredients and materials from local suppliers wherever possible - more than 75% of our ingredients are locally sourced - to help keep our carbon footprint in check. 
• Goods are packed using recyclable paper tape and hivewrap. 
• We support charitable organisations such as Plantlife, Orangutan Appeal UK and Greenpeace.
• We’ve moved to a 50% hybrid and 50% full electric car fleet, and we encourage our Tints of Nature family to leave their cars at home with a bike (or walk) to work incentive scheme. 

We’re pretty proud of what we do. But is it enough?

No, of course it’s not - we can always do better - and some days it feels like us little guys cannot make a big enough difference. But we can’t stop trying. 

If each individual says no to just one single use plastic item each day, that’s a heck-of-a-lot of packaging that won’t end up in our landfills. If each individual chooses to spend their hard-earned money with companies that put people and planet before profit, it’ll force change on a grand scale. 

Let’s not let these days pass us by. Let’s take stock. Let’s acknowledge our efforts. And let’s keep taking every opportunity, big and small, to ensure these days can be celebrated for generations to come. Happy Earth day!
